The 1746-OAP12 requires a backplane current draw of 370 mA at 5V DC and 0 mA at 24V DC, and because the module does not contain internal fusing, users must provide external fuses for each output circuit to protect against short circuits and overloads. 
 
During installation or wiring, personnel must wear a grounding wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging internal components and must ensure all chassis power is removed before inserting or removing the module to avoid injury or equipment damage. The continuous current per point is 0.5A at 30°C and derates linearly to 0.25A at 60°C, while the total module current is limited to 6.0A at 30°C and 3.0A at 60°C across its six isolated commons. 
 
For proper operation, a minimum load current of 10.0 mA is required, and users must account for a maximum off-state leakage current of 2 mA at 120V AC or 4 mA at 240V AC when interfacing with high-impedance loads.
