The 1746-IH16 is a 16-point discrete input module designed for the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 controller platform. This high-density module operates at a nominal input voltage of 125V DC and resides in any available slot of an SLC 500 chassis, providing a reliable interface for high-voltage DC field devices such as sensors and limit switches.

This module features a wide operating voltage range from 90V DC to 146V DC and provides 1500V AC optical isolation between the input terminals and backplane logic. It is equipped with a removable terminal block for simplified wiring and includes 16 status LEDs on the front panel to indicate the ON/OFF state of each input point for rapid system diagnostics.

 Power Generation

The 1746-IH16 must be installed into any available slot of an SLC 500 chassis, with the exception of slot 0 which is reserved for the processor. Before installation or removal of the module, all power to the SLC chassis and all 125V DC external field power sources must be disconnected to prevent equipment damage or personal injury. 
 
The module is equipped with a removable terminal block to allow for easier wiring of high-voltage DC field devices; however, it is critical that the terminal block is fully seated and the door latches are secured to maintain proper backplane communication. Proper cable routing is required to ensure that high-voltage 125V DC input lines are physically separated from low-voltage communication and control wiring to minimize electromagnetic interference. 
 
During operation, the 16 status LEDs on the front panel should be used to verify the logical state of the inputs, and regular inspections should ensure that terminal connections remain tight and that the ambient operating temperature does not exceed 60°C (140°F) to maintain the integrity of the 1500V AC optical isolation.
