The CM3201 is a communication module for safety instrumented systems. It features a single leg non redundant physical structure and mounts onto a dedicated Trident communication baseplate to establish a physical data bus connection directly with the main processors.

The Trident Communication Module serves as an optional, three-to-one interface connecting directly to the Main Processors via two MP Interconnect Assemblies on a dedicated CM Baseplate. A single Trident controller architecture accommodates up to two independent CMs per baseplate, enabling either redundant communication configurations or additional discrete port expansion.
Each module features three optically isolated, user-configurable RS-232/RS-485 serial ports supporting transmission rates up to 115 Kbps per port. Network connectivity consists of two physical ports: one 10-Megabit Ethernet port (with 10BaseT and AUI connectors) and one 100-Megabit Ethernet port (with 100BaseTX and MII connectors), both allowing Media Access Units (MAUs) to adapt to alternative Ethernet media or extend physical network distances.

When configuring the CM3201, it must be maintained that the single hardware unit is a non-redundant, single-leg structure, requiring two modules installed in pairs on the baseplate for network redundancy. The dual Ethernet ports are restricted to distinct speeds of 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps rather than dual-autosensing, and they share a single IP architecture.
Port physical configurations and Modbus protocol mappings must be executed via TriStation software. Hot-swapping a single module that lacks a redundant counterpart or is in an active communication state (indicated by an illuminated ACTIVE LED) is strictly prohibited to prevent external master communication interruptions.

The CM3201 is a single-leg, non-redundant hardware structure. It does not possess an internal Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture; however, system-level communication link redundancy is achieved by installing a pair of identical CM3201 modules on the baseplate.
This module establishes industrial communication links between the Trident Main Processors and external control systems, PLCs, or Human-Machine Interfaces.
