Overview Manuals Common Applications Product Precautions
The 21000-28-05-00-133-04-02 is an industrial-grade, all-metal, explosion-proof proximity probe housing assembly. Serving as a front-end protector, it allows direct gap adjustment, removal, or replacement of the proximity probe from outside the machinery without removing the machine casing.
    • A probe sleeve of optional length
    • A reverse mount proximity probe
    • Threaded ports for conduit connections
The 21000 Proximity Probe Housing Assemblies are available with Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approvals and are rated explosion-proof for hazardous areas. For intrinsically safe applications, this assembly features a 21000 aluminum housing certified as a CSA Type 4 enclosure. It is fully compliant with the American Petroleum Institute's (API) 670 Standard for externally mounted proximity probe housings. The sleeve length is determined by the specific installation location of the probe and housing, with the requirement that the probe lead must be longer than the sleeve. Sleeve lengths exceeding 304 mm (12 inches) require additional sleeve support to mitigate vibrations associated with unsupported spans. For long sleeves passing through an inner bearing housing, a dedicated probe support and oil seal (part number 37948-01) or custom sleeve supports can be implemented.

Petrochemical Refining
Houses reverse-mount proximity probes on high-pressure centrifugal hydrogen compressors to allow safe external gap calibration in hazardous gas areas.

Fossil Fuel Power Generation
Extends the probe deep into the thick casings of large steam turbines to measure rotor axial position while allowing online external replacement.

Iron and Steel Smelting
Shields shaft displacement sensors on blast furnace blast blowers from heavy industrial dust and high-vibration environmental impacts.

Mining and Mineral Concentrators
Shields proximity probes from direct physical impacts by flying debris and heavy falling rocks around large ore crushers and grinding mills.

Pulp and Paper Factories
Guards proximity probes against high-pressure water washdowns and chemical pulp splattering on modern high-speed paper-making machinery.

Air Separation Industries
Facilitates external probe adjustment for high-speed centrifugal nitrogen and oxygen compressors without interrupting critical continuous gas production.
Install a support bushing to prevent sleeve resonance from the 13.3-inch penetration depth. Secure the dome covers and 3/4-14 NPT threads with conduit seals to maintain explosion-proof and IP66 ratings. Monitor voltage output during external adjustments to prevent physical contact with the shaft. Ensure the internal ClickLoc connector is locked and wrapped with insulating tubing to avoid ground interference against the aluminum inner wall.

Technical notes

Technical notes

This model is an explosion-proof aluminum proximity probe housing assembly with a 13.3-inch sleeve. Its core configurations include: compatibility with a 3/8-24 threaded, 0.5-meter long probe, no rear conduit fitting, and a 5.0-inch housing height, certified with multiple global hazardous area approvals such as ATEX/IECEx. It is primarily used for the external probe installation and safety protection of large rotating machinery, including turbines and compressors.

FAQS

  • What type of product is 21000-28-05-00-133-04-02?
This is an externally mounted proximity probe housing assembly (aluminum body with a stainless steel sleeve structure) manufactured by Bently Nevada, which comes pre-installed with an internal eddy current sensor probe.
  • What is the primary purpose of 21000-28-05-00-133-04-02 in industrial sites?
It is used on large rotating machinery like turbines and compressors to provide explosion-proof, waterproof, and oil-proof protection for the delicate probe inside, while enabling technicians to adjust the sensor gap, calibrate, or replace it from the outside without disassembling or stopping the machine.
  • Does the 21000-28-05-00-133-04-02 include a standoff adapter?
The option "-00" means it is configured without an external standoff adapter (0 inches standoff), meaning the housing body will be mounted directly against the machine casing.
  • What are the physical materials and structural composition of 21000-28-05-00-133-04-02?
Its dome cover and main junction box body are made of lightweight, high-strength die-cast aluminum (with a corrosion-resistant coating), while the 13.3-inch long penetration sleeve is constructed from highly rigid 304 stainless steel.
  • How to correctly install, adjust, and use 21000-28-05-00-133-04-02 on site?
Insert the sleeve into the casing hole and tighten the 3/4-14 NPT process thread. Unscrew the upper aluminum dome cover to directly adjust the insertion depth of the internal probe from the outside to calibrate the installation gap (typically until ~-10V DC is monitored at the Proximitor), then route the 0.5m integral cable through the conduit to connect with the extension cable.
