It forms the electrical and mechanical base of an AC500 station by connecting the installed CPU and communication modules, distributing the documented 24 V DC supply, and linking the first S500 I/O terminal unit through the I/O-Bus. The base routes I/O and diagnostic data over the I/O-Bus and exposes COM1, COM2, FBP, and Ethernet connections; the installed compatible CPU and communication modules execute the PLC application and protocols. TB521-ETH itself does not independently measure analog or digital field signals or run the control program. It is used with ABB PM5xx-ETH CPUs, compatible communication modules, FieldBusPlug devices, and S500 expansion I/O in industrial machine and process-control panels where serial, Ethernet, fieldbus-slave, and local-I/O connections are required in one documented AC500 station.
