Overview Manuals Common Applications Product Precautions
The 1794-TB32 is the cage-clamp terminal base unit for the FLEX I/O distributed remote architecture. In this platform deployment, each FLEX I/O module requires a terminal base unit that snaps directly onto the standard DIN rail to the right of the interface adapter. These base units provide vibration-resistant physical connection points for field I/O wiring, while plugging together end-to-end to form the continuous backplane bus structure for internal power and data communication across the remote station.
    • Single module accommodates 32-channel signals
    • Provides cage-clamp terminations
    • Features a modular architecture separating the electronic module from the base
1794-TB32 is the 32-point high-density version of the 1794-TB3, used with 32-point digital modules and the 1794-IB16D module. It integrates 32 distinct I/O channels, 8 common terminals, and 8 positive voltage (+V) terminals, compatible with cage, screw, or spring-clamp terminations. Featuring a permanent wiring architecture that separates the base from the electronic module, it supports Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP), allowing modules to be hot-swapped without disconnecting field cables or disrupting backplane bus communication to ensure continuous system operation.

1794-TB32 snaps directly onto the standard DIN rail to the right of the interface adapter. When units are tightly slid together horizontally, their internal contacts automatically connect to eliminate external bridging wires and form the backplane bus of the distributed station. Its cage-clamp structure withstands long-term industrial vibration, and the circuit topology passes strict electrical isolation tests to block common-mode interference, providing highly reliable hardware support for high-density, compact control cabinet wiring.

Automotive Manufacturing
Used in body welding lines, stamping shops, or final assembly lines to connect proximity switches, photoelectric sensors, and cylinder position sensors.

Oil and Gas
Collects valve open/closed statuses, pressure switch alarms, and Emergency Shutdown Valve (ESD) control signals at wellheads, pipeline valve stations, or tank farms.

Pharmaceutical Industry
Collects safety door limit switches, pressure switches, and operator console button signals in cleanrooms, batching tanks, and integrated packaging lines.

Power and Energy
Connects circuit breaker auxiliary contacts, disconnector statuses, and fault alarm signals in auxiliary control systems (e.g., ash handling, coal handling) of thermal power plants or wind turbines.

Chemical and Petrochemical
Used inside flameproof enclosures near reactors and distillation columns to connect interlock safety system buttons, high/low level switches, and fault alarm indicators.

Pulp and Paper
Connects paper web break detection photocells, air knife control valves, and drive system safety light curtains on pulpers, paper machines, and rewinders.
When deploying the 1794-TB32 high-density base, routinely check the screw clamps in high-vibration environments to prevent intermittent contact caused by microscopic loosening across its dense 51-point termination layout. The internal self-assembling power rail is rated for a maximum continuous current of 10 A.

Ensure it is not overloaded when daisy-chaining multiple 32-point high-power modules, and introduce supplementary power feed bases if necessary. Lastly, during hot-swapping (RIUP), always apply smooth and perfectly vertical force—never tilt or force the electronic module—to protect the miniature gold-plated mating pins inside the base from bending or damage.

Technical notes

The 1794-TB32 is a high-density screw-clamp base measuring 94x94x69 mm, accommodating 0.21–1.3 mm² wires with a recommended torque of 0.56–0.79 N·m. Its internal power rail supports a maximum of 31.2V DC/AC (50/60Hz) and a 10 A continuous current, featuring a 50V continuous isolation voltage to ensure electrical safety and reliable termination in harsh industrial environments.

FAQS

  • What is the Rockwell 1794-TB32?
The 1794-TB32 is a high-density, screw-clamp terminal base unit within the Allen-Bradley FLEX I/O system. It serves as both the mechanical foundation and electrical connection hub designed to house 32-point high-density digital I/O electronic modules.
  • How do you use the 1794-TB32 in an industrial control cabinet?
First, snap the 1794-TB32 onto a standard DIN rail and slide it to engage with adjacent bases. Next, terminate the field sensor/actuator signal and power wires onto its terminal blocks. Finally, plug the 32-point I/O electronic module vertically onto the base.
  • How many total wiring terminals does the 1794-TB32 have?
The 1794-TB32 features a total of 51 wiring terminals arranged in a three-tier layout, specifically engineered to optimize space for 32-channel high-density wiring.
  • Which terminals on the 1794-TB32 are designated for field I/O signals?
The 32 field I/O signal wires are landed on terminals 0 through 31 of the 1794-TB32. Terminals 0-15 are located on the top row (Row A), while terminals 16-31 are on the middle row (Row B).
  • How are the common and power terminals distributed on the 1794-TB32?
The bottom row (Row C) contains the internal power distribution terminals of the 1794-TB32. It consists of 8 power terminals (+V, terminals 34-41) and 8 common return terminals (Common/-V, terminals 42-49) to supply power to the module and field devices.
