The module exhibits a dedicated Colour Code CC02, which aligns with its corresponding BaseUnit terminals to distinguish hardware specifications and wiring definitions during installation. The module interfaces with PROFINET or PROFIBUS industrial networks via an ET 200SP interface module, blending into the factory control network environment. It is equipped with a substitute value output function. In the event of a communication breakdown between the central PLC and the remote I/O station, this feature allows each channel to adopt a predefined state—whether freezing the last valid value, turning off, or turning on. This response maintains downstream equipment like solenoid valves and contactors in a specific status during signal loss.

This digital output module offers hardware monitoring through embedded diagnostic capabilities. Its localized processing logic provides module and channel-level diagnostics, monitoring for specific electrical conditions. It detects short-circuits to L+ (positive rail), short-circuits to ground, field wiring interruptions (wire breaks), and supply voltage anomalies or dropouts. Once an issue occurs, diagnostic data is transmitted across the backplane bus to the central workstation while simultaneously flashing the DIAG LED on the front panel, allowing maintenance personnel to verify fault locations across general automation production lines.
