Overview Manuals Common Applications Product Precautions
GE IC694MDL742 is a 16-point positive-logic DC output module for PACSystems RX3i. It sources current to field loads and provides electronic short-circuit protection for each group of eight outputs.
  • Sources DC current to the connected field loads.
  • Separates the outputs into independently protected groups.
  • Provides numbered point LEDs and a red fault indicator.
  • Uses user-supplied power for the output circuits.

Connect loads between their output terminal and the negative field-power bus. Assess the total current of each group together with cabinet temperature before commissioning.

Important Notice: ESCP does not prevent an individual output from exceeding its rating. A point LED is not proof that field current is reaching the load.

GE IC694MDL742 Technical Reference (PDF)GE IC694MDL742 Installation & Commissioning Guide (PDF)

The technical reference covers documented function and specifications. The installation guide organizes wiring, service checks and commissioning acceptance for this product.

Solenoid actuation
Switch DC solenoid loads within both the point rating and the applicable group-current limit.
Motor starter commands
Provide discrete DC control signals to suitable starter control circuits.
Panel indication
Drive compatible indicators while accounting for off-state leakage and voltage drop.
Grouped machine outputs
Organize RX3i outputs into two field-power groups and diagnose group-level short-circuit trips.
GE IC694MDL742 installation and service checks: Field-device power is supplied externally. An ESCP trip switches off the affected output group while point LEDs can remain on; correct the fault before cycling field power.
1
Isolate field power before checking output wiring or clearing a short-circuited load.
2
Wire positive field supply to terminals 1 and 11; use terminals 10 and 20 for the respective group returns.
3
Connect loads from the output terminals to the negative power bus; this is a sourcing module.
4
Keep every output within 1 A and apply the lower group limit at elevated temperature.
5
Check load inrush against the documented 5.2 A for 10 ms characteristic.
6
Allow for up to 1.2 V output drop when evaluating the voltage available at a load.
7
Do not use point LEDs alone to clear a fault: they can remain lit during an ESCP trip.
8
Correct the fault before cycling 12/24 V DC field power to reset electronic protection.

FAQS

  • Why can IC694MDL742 point LEDs remain on while a load is off?
An electronic short-circuit trip disables the affected group and lights the red F indicator without switching off the point LEDs. Check field power and the group fault before treating the load as a controller-program problem.
  • Does IC694MDL742 limit every output to a safe overload current?
No. Electronic protection addresses short-circuited loads at group level; each point must still remain within its 1 A maximum rating.
  • How is IC694MDL742 electronic short-circuit protection reset?
Correct the short circuit, then cycle the 12/24 V DC user supply to the module under the approved shutdown procedure.
  • How much combined current may one IC694MDL742 group supply?
The maximum is 4 A per group at 50 C and 3 A per group at 60 C. Check the combined load, rather than multiplying eight outputs by the 1 A point rating.
  • Where are the two IC694MDL742 group supplies connected?
Terminals 1 and 11 are DC positive. Terminals 10 and 20 are the returns for outputs 1-8 and 9-16 respectively.
  • Can IC694MDL742 power field devices from the backplane?
Field-device power must come from a user-supplied DC source. The 130 mA backplane figure describes the module demand on the 5 V bus with all outputs on.
  • What should be allowed for when IC694MDL742 drives a low-voltage load?
Allow for up to 1.2 V output voltage drop, up to 1 mA off-state leakage, and the load operating threshold.
  • How quickly does IC694MDL742 respond to an output change?
Maximum ON and OFF response times are both 2 ms. Overall machine response also includes the controller and the connected device.
