Overview Manuals Common Applications Product Precautions
The 3500/70M 176449-09 135489-01 is an Enhanced Reciprocating Impulse/Velocity Monitor. It acts as a "stethoscope" to precisely capture transient high-frequency impulse signals caused by loose parts, liquid slugs, or valve failures within cylinders or frames, while simultaneously monitoring overall frame vibration velocity. It is a core safety component for preventing catastrophic mechanical failures and ensuring the structural integrity of reciprocating compressors.
    • Recip Velocity
    • Impulse Acceleration
    • Low Frequency Recip Velocity
The 3500/70M Recip Impulse Velocity Monitor is a 4-channel device used as part of the reciprocating compressor solutions package to monitor compressor crankcase and crosshead vibration. The monitor accepts input from seismic transducers, conditions the signal to derive vibration measurements, and compares the conditioned signals with user-programmable alarms. Each channel, depending on configuration, typically conditions its input signal to generate various parameters called static values. You can configure alert setpoints for each active static value and danger setpoints for any two of the active static values.

Oil Refining
Detecting Loose Piston Rod Nuts or liquid slugs in hydrogen makeup compressors to prevent catastrophic rod breakage.

Industrial Gases
Protecting reciprocating compressors used for Oxygen or Nitrogen bottling by monitoring cylinder head impulses.

LNG Terminals
Monitoring BOG (Boil-Off Gas) Compressors for abnormal noises or impacts during low-temperature operation.

Pipeline Transportation
Detecting Cylinder Liner Rubbing or abnormal piston impacts at natural gas booster stations.

Steel & Metallurgy
Protecting Coke Oven Gas Compressors from damage caused by internal tar buildup or mechanical impacts.

Natural Gas Gathering & Gathering
Monitoring Frame Vibration and impulse events on field gas compressors to detect foundation loosening or internal impacts.
When using the Bently Nevada 3500/70M module combination, focus on logically setting the impulse alarm thresholds and Event Count to effectively filter normal mechanical pulsations and prevent nuisance trips. Ensure sensors are installed at critical locations like cylinder heads or crosshead guides that directly transmit internal impacts, and strictly verify shield grounding to eliminate high-frequency electromagnetic interference. Additionally, periodically validate the accuracy of frame velocity readings to ensure reliable vibration protection for the machine foundation while monitoring for internal clashing.

FAQS

  • What is the 3500/70M 149734-08 135489-01?
It is a 4-channel Reciprocating Acceleration Monitor. The 176449-09 is the main module for impact signal processing, and the 135489-01 is the I/O module for connecting accelerometers or proximity probes.
  • What is the difference between the 176449-09 and a standard 3500/42M vibration module?
The 176449-09 includes specialized algorithms (like Impact) to filter out normal reciprocating noise and capture high-frequency impacts.
  • Where is the 3500/70M 176449-09 135489-01 typically applied on a compressor?
Its sensors are typically mounted on the crosshead guides or frame to capture internal mechanical clatter.
  • What alarm types does the 3500/70M 176449-09 135489-01 support?
It supports Alert and Danger alarms based on "impacts per unit time" or "peak acceleration."
  • What do the front panel LEDs of the 176449-09 indicate?
A solid OK LED means the module is healthy, TM means Test Mode, and flashing TX/RX indicates data communication.
