The 3500/33 149986-01 is a full-height 16-channel relay module for industrial machinery condition monitoring and protection systems. Designed specifically for speed and vibration protection of rotating machinery, this module can be seamlessly integrated into 3500 machinery protection systems.
16-Channel Ultra-High Density Output
Advanced Programmable Voting Logic
Localized Alarm Drive Logic & Slot Flexibility
The Bently Nevada 3500/33 16-Channel Relay Module is a full-height module that provides 16 relay outputs. You can place any number of 16-channel relay modules in any of the slots to the right of the Transient Data Interface (TDI) Module. Each output of the 3500/33 16-Channel Relay Module can be independently programmed to perform voting logic. Each relay of the module includes Alarm Drive Logic. The foundational operational benefit of the 149986-01 module is its advanced, localized logic execution capability. Each of the 16 independent relay outputs can be customized to perform complex voting logic schemes (such as 1oo2 or 2oo3 multi-channel trip matrices). Backed by dedicated internal Alarm Drive Logic on every single channel, the module processes complex drive inputs generated from proximity probes, seismic sensors, or temperature indicators. It instantly commands machinery trip interlocks during genuine failure states (e.g., destructive shaft vibration, axial displacement, or bearing thermal runaway) while eliminating false trips caused by single-point sensor anomalies, safeguarding continuous uptime for steam turbines, gas compressors, and heavy industrial turbomachinery.

Nuclear Power
Specifically installed in the steam high-pressure main feedwater pumps and turbine-generator shafting protection loops of nuclear power conventional islands, ensuring the highest level of safety redundancy via hardware voting logic.
Pulp & Paper
Drives the emergency shutdown control for large dryer cylinder drums and heavy pulp pump driving bearings, eliminating risks of mechanical misalignment and dynamic unbalance during high-speed continuous operations.
Oil & Gas
Used to control the emergency trip actions of core natural gas export compressor packages on offshore platforms or onshore gas fields, preventing high-pressure gas leaks and destructive vibration accidents.
Thermal Power
Serves as the central core protection link directly tied to the shaft vibration and displacement monitoring of primary steam turbine generator sets, forcing steam valve closure (tripping) before bearing damage occurs.
Large-Scale Iron & Steel Metallurgy
Responsible for the emergency mechanical state control of blast furnace high-volume blowers and large-scale reversible roughing mill drive chains in hot rolling plants, resisting high vibrations and thermal electromagnetic interference.
When using or replacing the 3500/33 (149986-01) relay module, the most critical steps are safety bypassing and configuration recovery. Because this module directly controls the emergency trip protection loops of large rotating machinery, you must physically bypass the corresponding external interlock loops within the control system before inserting, extracting, or replacing it on the rack to prevent accidental trips caused by transient relay state transitions. Furthermore, a newly replaced module is a bare board and the original "Alarm Drive Logic" and "Voting Logic" configurations must be re-downloaded via the Bently Nevada software before it can become functional. Lastly, given its IP20 open-board rating, technicians must wear anti-static wrist straps during handling, and directly touching the backplane gold fingers is strictly prohibited.
It is a full-height 16-Channel Relay Output Module within the Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System, bearing the part number 149986-01.
What is the primary industrial purpose of 3500/33 149986-01?
Its primary industrial purpose is to receive shaft vibration, axial displacement, or bearing overtemperature signals from front-end monitor modules, and then trigger emergency safety shutdown (tripping) protection for large rotating machinery (such as steam turbines, compressors, and large fans) through relay actions.
How to properly install and use a hardware product like 3500/33 149986-01?
It must be installed inside a standard Bently Nevada 3500 rack. You can insert it into any available slot to the right of the Transient Data Interface (TDI) module, and then configure the operational logic for each channel using the dedicated 3500 configuration software.
What fail-safe output configuration modes are available for the 3500/33 149986-01 module?
It supports two fail-safe configurations:
Can the 3500/33 149986-01 module be hot-swapped during operation?
Yes, but with extreme caution.
