The 1769-OB16 is a compact 24V DC solid-state digital output module featuring 16 output channels and a sourcing circuit design commonly used in Europe.

The module operates within a voltage range of 20.4V to 26.4V DC and primarily supplies current from its output circuits to sinking field devices. At an ambient temperature of 30°C, the maximum continuous current is 1.0A per point and 8.0A for the entire module. When the temperature rises to 60°C, due to derating requirements, the maximum current drops to 0.5A per point and 4.0A for the entire module. The total heat dissipation of the module is 2.11 Watts and the maximum bus current draw is 200 mA at 5V DC.
In terms of electrical control and isolation protection, the module supports a maximum surge current of 2.0A with a repeatability of once every 2 seconds for a duration of 10 milliseconds. Its output group to backplane isolation is verified by strict dielectric tests of either 1200V AC or 1697V DC for 1 second.
When driving resistive loads, the maximum turn-on signal delay is 0.1 milliseconds and the maximum turn-off delay is 1.0 milliseconds. To handle the maximum off-state leakage current of 1.0 mA at 26.4V DC, it is recommended to connect a 5.6K ohm 0.5 Watt loading resistor in parallel. If switching 24V DC inductive loads, reverse-wiring a 1N4004 diode across the load is recommended for surge suppression.

When using the 1769-OB16, ensure strict adherence to temperature-based current derating by limiting the continuous load to 1.0A per point at 30°C and 0.5A at 60°C. To manage the maximum 1.0 mA off-state leakage current and prevent ghost voltage, parallel a 5.6K ohm loading resistor across the load, and always reverse-wire a 1N4004 diode when switching 24V DC inductive loads to suppress voltage spikes. Finally, respect the power supply distance rating by installing the module within 8 slots of the system power supply to prevent bus communication dropouts.

Technical notes
Technical notes
The 1769-OB16 mounts directly onto the local backplane bus of a CompactLogix™ 5370 controller, or deploys within distributed EtherNet/IP™ remote networks via ethernet communication interface modules such as the 1769-AENTR, while maintaining backward compatibility with MicroLogix™ 1500 systems.
The 1769-OB16 is a 16 point digital DC sourcing output module under the Allen-Bradley brand of Rockwell Automation.
What is the core physical function of the 1769-OB16?
This module receives digital logic commands from the controller and outputs 24V DC control drive voltage to external DC field devices.
What electrical meaning do the letters OB represent in the 1769-OB16 model name?
The letters OB signify that the module utilizes a transistor sourcing output architecture, outputting a high level DC voltage.
How many independent output channels are supported by the 1769-OB16 hardware?
The hardware integrates 16 digital output channels configured in a single group of physical control points.
