The F3422 is an 8-channel relay output module for high-safety-level industrial process control systems. This module provides reliable signal switching and safety electrical isolation under harsh industrial field environments, ensuring the stable operation of core industrial loops.
SIL 3 Certified Functional Safety
8 Channels Complete Isolation
High Switching Capacity & SPDT
This heavy-duty module is dedicated to high-safety-integrity industrial process control applications, executing the physical on/off switching and interlocking control of critical safety actuators, such as emergency shutdown (ESD) valves, solenoid valves, and motor trip circuits. Operating reliably under harsh field environments characterized by intense electromagnetic interference (EMI/RFI) and ambient temperature fluctuations, the F3422 delivers highly dependable contact-type signal switching alongside robust internal-to-external electrical isolation, ensuring the stable performance of core machinery protection loops.
The F3422 module integrates eight completely independent channels. Each channel features an isolated Single-Pole Double-Throw (SPDT) form-C physical contact configuration, allowing seamless adaptation to either "De-energize to Trip" or "Energize to Trip" safety logics. Built with an internal safety-critical galvanic barrier (with isolation voltage ratings up to 2500 V), the module separates the low-voltage 24 VDC microprocessor logic side from the high-voltage/high-current field load side (up to 250 VAC / 220 VDC).
This architecture serves as an electrical firewall, suppressing common-mode ground-loop noise and preventing field-side voltage surges from propagating backward into the central processing unit. Fully compliant with IEC 61508 functional safety standards, the F3422 supports safety loops up to a SIL 3 rating. It features a fail-safe default mechanism where a complete loss of system power or backplane communication forces all internal relays to drop out automatically, transitioning the system safely to a predefined shutdown state.

Petrochemical and Refining
Acts as the critical output interface for Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD) to de-energize and close isolation valves during process upsets.
Oil and Gas Pipelines
Controls mainline sectionalizing valves and block valves at pipeline pump stations for remote emergency isolation.
Thermal Power Plants
Executes safety trips for fuel gas or oil supply valves within Burner Management Systems (BMS) to mitigate boiler explosion hazards.
Chemical Manufacturing
Controls interlocking relay circuits for chemical reactors to instantly dump chemical inhibitors or isolate catalyst feeds under unsafe pressures.
Coal Gasification and Chemicals
Disconnects the power supply to high-pressure oxygen and slurry feed pumps during emergency interlock conditions.
Nuclear Power
Serves non-safety-critical but highly reliable auxiliary containment isolation loops and backup diesel generator startup circuits.
Limit channel switching strictly within 60 VDC/VAC and 4 A to prevent relay contact welding. The module occupies 4 TE width and requires an ambient temperature below 60 °C for cooling. Secure the module inside explosion-proof cabinets with G3 protection for hazardous areas. Fully tighten the front cable plug to maintain safety isolation. Verify all channel mappings via software after legacy replacements to guarantee the SIL3 safety interlocks.

Technical notes
Technical notes
The HIMA F3422 module is designated for high-safety-level industrial process control systems, executing the physical switching control of safety actuating elements such as emergency shutdown valves, solenoid valves, and motor trip circuits. Under harsh industrial field environments with strong electromagnetic interference and temperature fluctuations, the F3422 provides highly reliable contact-type signal switching as well as comprehensive internal and external safety electrical isolation, ensuring the stable operation and safety protection interlocking of core monitoring loops.
What is the F3422, and what is its primary purpose?
It is an 8-channel industrial safety relay output module primarily used to execute physical switching control for safety loops such as emergency shutdown valves, solenoid valves, and motor trip circuits.
How do you properly use products like the F3422?
It must be inserted into a standard rack of a HIMA control host, powered by 24 VDC logic via the system backplane, and used to switch the power circuits of external field devices through its internal contacts.
How many output channels does the F3422 module have in total?
This module has a total of 8 completely independent relay output channels.
Is there electrical isolation between the output channels of the F3422?
Yes. All channels are safely insulated and isolated from each other on a physical level, ensuring a failure in one channel does not affect the others.
What functional safety integrity level (SIL) can the F3422 achieve?
According to the IEC 61508 standard, this module can support up to SIL 3 safety applications in compliant system loops.
