Overview Manuals Common Applications Product Precautions
The 1769-ECR is a right-hand bus terminator end cap for programmable automation controller racks. This hardware belongs to the CompactLogix 1769 series system family and functions as a passive component for the Bulletin 1769 Compact I/O™ product line.
    • Supports both DIN rail mounting and direct panel mounting structures
    • Complies with European Hazardous Location and IEC Hazardous Location regulatory standards
    • Operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius
The hardware architecture contains no central processing unit, memory, Ethernet communication chip, or embedded I/O channels. Its physical function is to terminate the right-hand end of the control system backplane communication bus. It must be installed on the final module on the right side of the rack to provide the required electrical impedance matching for the backplane bus, maintaining the closed-loop operation and continuity of the entire rack communication link.

This single hardware unit contains a physical connector with integrated bus termination resistors, an engineering plastic protective housing, locking pins for rail securing, and standard mounting latches. Because this passive accessory contains no independent electronic microchips, its physical stability depends entirely on the base latches, supporting installation directly onto standard DIN rails or direct panel bolt mounting. The assembly contains no communication cables or external power terminals for data transmission, relying completely on physical interlocking with the right-side slot of the controller rack.

Automotive Part Manufacturing
Installed at the far right end of 1769 I/O racks in stamping shops or assembly lines to maintain backplane communication impedance stability between the controller, proximity sensors, and pneumatic valve islands.

Food Processing & Baking
Applied at the termination of CompactLogix racks for multi-temperature industrial oven control systems, protecting the data link between thermocouple input modules and the main controller from field noise interference.

Metal Stamping & Forming
Mounted at the end of the 1769 module rack inside hydraulic press side electrical cabinets, providing physical anti-vibration locking to prevent backplane bus electrical open-circuits caused by high-frequency mechanical shock.

Mining Conveyor Belts
Installed at the end of I/O modules inside control boxes along long-distance belt conveyors, closing the backplane bus to maintain signal integrity for safety sensors such as pull-cord and misalignment switches.

Plastic Injection Molding
Mounted on the right side of 1769 thermocouple and analog expansion racks inside injection molding machine main control boxes, terminating the physical backplane to support long-term stable operation under high mold-temperature conditions.
When utilizing the 1769-ECR, it must be maintained that this is a passive component without Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) capabilities; physical installation or removal must be executed only when system power is completely disconnected.

This right end cap is a mandatory prerequisite for the operation of Bulletin 1769 Compact I/O racks, as an missing cap or left-side installation causes a backplane communication open circuit and controller faults.

Furthermore, its shock and vibration ratings depend directly on mounting stability, requiring both the DIN rail latches or panel bolts to be completely locked to prevent electrical contact separation under high-frequency industrial mechanical shock.

Technical notes

The Allen-Bradley 1769-ECR is a right end cap for the Rockwell Automation CompactLogix series. This component terminates the right end of the communication bus on Bulletin 1769 Compact I/O controller backplanes. The hardware complies with European Hazardous Location and IEC Hazardous Location certification standards. The operating temperature range extends from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and the storage temperature range spans from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The module mounts directly onto a DIN rail or panel with shock resistance ratings dependent on the chosen mounting surface structure.
