The numerical transformer terminal RET 521 is designed for fast and selective protection and control of two- and three-winding trans formers, auto-transformers, generator-trans former blocks and shunt reactors. The RET 521 has low requirements on the main Current Transformers and no interpos ing CTs are necessary. Flexibility is provided to cover for different applications in form of transformer size, vec tor groups, system neutral earthing and exten sion of protection functions according to the user’s preference. The selection of function ality from the modular hardware and software is made according to the requirements for selectivity and reliability in accordance to the user’s preference. Big and important trans formers such as generator-transformer blocks or large network transformers can use two RET 521 and include the modular protection software selectively to obtain redundancy. Smaller transformers and shunt reactors can include the modular software in one RET 521 and can also use the programmable logic to provide trip or indication for external protec tions (e.g. Buchholz). Thus providing a very compact design for protection and control.

In the protection of supply transformers for electric arc furnaces or blast furnaces, it collects the position signals of the On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) to let the protection device accurately identify the current voltage regulation tap.

Applied in medium-voltage electric propulsion systems for large LNG carriers or offshore drilling rigs. It collects insulation oil pressure and winding temperature of main generators or propulsion transformers.

It collects pump bearing temperature or vibration signals converted to 4-20 mA as auxiliary non-electrical trip protection.

During installation, strictly correspond to the designated slot and complete the correct I/O mapping in the software. When wiring, use shielded cables and carefully check the voltage level and polarity of the secondary circuits on site. At the same time, a reasonable anti-jitter filter time must be configured in the system to ensure accurate signal acquisition and eliminate interference from external contact jitter.
