        Eddy current sensors are displacement sensors that use the principle of eddy current formation to sense displacement. These sensors measure shaft displacement in rotating machinery and have been around for many years as they offer manufacturers high-linearity, high-speed measurements, and high resolution.

        An eddy-current sensor produces an alternating magnetic field at the probe tip. When this field is near a conductive material, the field creates (induces) small electrical eddy-currents in the material. These currents generate a magnetic field that opposes the field from the sensor.
